Language skills
Language skills are very important in my opinion. Knowing even the basics of different languages allows communication with people from around the world and language skills often bring along knowledge on the cultures around the language.
ā
This page gathers my language skills in one place and opens a little bit my skill level, where the skill has come from and gives some examples on situation where I have used said language.
Finnish
Finnish is my native language and my education has been mainly in Finnish.
ā
In Finnish I can read and write any kind of text and participate in any conversation without troubles. Finnish is my strongest language especially in written form.
English
English was the first foreign language for me to learn and I have been learning it since the age of 9. Nowadays I use English while watching movies, playing games and communicating in games and in social media.
ā
I have always been travelling a lot with my family and friends. While travelling, my main communication language is English.
ā
I am capable of having a conversation on varying topics and I can read and understand written text, both fact and fiction, fairly well.
Finnish sign language
Finnish sign language I have learned by attending basic courses in the university. I know the basics of the language and have used it in my cash line work with customers.
German
German language I started learning in high school at the age of 16 for fun. In 2017 I got in to the University with German language as my major, getting more touch to the language through native-speaking teachers and a student exchange year in Germany.
ā
My second academic year (2018-2019) I spent in Würzburg, Germany. During that student exchange I studied in a local university, managed my daily life and travelled in a few German cities, all while communicating in German.
ā
In addition to basic communication skills I am able to read and understand different kind of texts. I have written my Bachelor's Thesis and my Master's Thesis in German. During my studies I have been training for example translating and writing various texts, pronunciation and analysing grammar and texts.
Swedish
Swedish was my second foreign language, which I started in elementary school at the age of 10.
In Swedish I can communicate through basic conversations, for example while working as a cashier in Ikea I helped customers in Swedish several times. I can read and understand swedish texts, and with some time to prepare I can hold presentations or write texts in Swedish.
